review on presentations using smartboard
Nervous??
Excited??
Butterflies in the tummy??
hye folks....
This week class are suppose to be the presentation week for our smartbook project. Despite all the hassle that our beloved prof RM and facilitators encounter to install smartbook software. They manage to settle the problem. (Sigh...ICT it can be a disaster and waste of time if we facing with technical problem)
Next, Presentation!!!
Five chosen group send their representative to present in front of the class. YES i enjoy this week class since each group really do the best to use the smart board
The best goes to...Yes mellisa's group!! I really amused with her creativity to use the smart board. Talented and brilliant work for this pervert girl hehe... She's really captured all the attention to her..err i mean to the smart board. The point is she done it with her own effort which she uses AUTHENTIC material and manipulate it to the best.
Review:
- It a fun fun fun class yipeee!!
- There are some groups that i observed did take their material from commercial material (seriously obvious)
- Improvement shall be made with the FONT (size, colour)
- i can improve my own smartboard till next week...yeye!!

Reflection from moodle
Do you understand the basic knowledge using Notebook function in SMART Board? If yes which part that you understand the most? If not why did you not understand?
Basic knowledge?? Definitely yes!! Eventhough it is a "new" thing for me, but some of the basic functions are familiar to me (similiar with other software like Microsoft office - powerpoint). Basic function i understand the most are
- click
- drag
- group or ungroup
- cut
- clone aka copy
- Insert file such as movie/sound/ picture
I need some time to explore the software in order to improve the knowledge.
Practice makes perfect
Thanks you so much for dearly Facilitators for the guidance and help.
Do you understand the basic knowledge to use gallery feature and attachment picture in SMART Board incorporate for teaching English vocabulary for standard 4 students?
Undeniably, the picture gallery is essential to the teachers when designing a lesson. It is easy since the function is familiar with my exposure from other software. The gallery has various pictures and organized according topics. Furthermore, we still can
attach other pictures from the computer into the software.
Do you find that SMART Board is useful tool to suppor
t in teaching and learning? If yes, why it is useful? If not, what is the problem?
Due to globalization, we are blessed with creative innovation that help to support teaching and learning process. In this 21st century , definitely a "smartboard" is essential tool and a MUST in every classroom since it can help both teacher and students. It convenient and easy for teacher to carried out activities since this smartboard is a handy assistant. It can cater for different level of students and can be carried out in large classes. It is interactive & interesting for the students and less burden for teacher since everything is in one software.

A date with IWB
Apparently today we have new face in our class…Ms Fenny; young, beautiful and jovial lady with a lot of attraction (positive attraction indeed!!)
She wants to enrich our knowledge about Interactive White Board (IWB) aka Smart Board.
Personally, I don’t have any schemata or previous knowledge about Smart Board or IWB before this course. I am exposed to conventional method chalk and blackboard in primary years and whiteboard in my secondary and afterwards. Even after few lesson in this course, I HAD SEEN the magic and miracle of smart board but never had the chance to use it (or even touch it *sigh*)
Why bother??
Obviously it looks tempting enough to be touched and great features to be explore.
Just wonder…Is the smart board screen made from the same composition of LCD??
Basically, Ms. Fenny LESSON is about:
- How to integrate IWB into the teaching and learning activity
- How to use the IWB
- What are the basic features in IWB
- Introduction to SMART notebook software
Features of IWB introduced in Today’s class
click and drag the picture by using a finger, how to clone a text and picture????
We can write on IWB using pen (various colour) and even better we can do correction of our hand written when simply rub it out with eraser. These seem like typical function of whiteboard but integrated in the IWB features. This is the feature I like the most since we can save our “handwriting” in the computer. Good news for lecturer since they can save it as class notes and upload it for his/her students.
I notice IWB is a combination of powerful interactive software just to name few of it. For example PowerPoint (for presentation) and window media player (for interactive mode)
Common features available like “clone” substitute for “copy” in our daily dictionary.
Task: Work in groups and design an activity based on a selected topic
Duration: Preparation- 45minutes presentation- 5 minutes
Preparation stage
Our group, The Prestige come up with the topic preposition. It is a tough job to design an activity with IWB since all of us didn’t familiar with smart board software (reminds me my first experience to use chopstick) Unfamiliar software and now we need to create a simple activity (Urgh…first timer with limited time of exposure)
Luckily, we have guidance for the facilitators that really been helpful in exposing us to this software.
Presentation Stage
Surprisingly, I am glad to see a lot of tremendous effects and creativity from my fellow course mate. I learned a lot just to observe them. Not bad for a 45 minutes preparation.
I like Lee’s idea about playing with a doll (remember to “lock” the doll or else they will left naked as what happen with Lee’s incident)

poster design competition
yes this week we were lucky to have a new face in the class. Puan Nazirah (i hope i spell her name correct) in charge for this week session. we briefly explain to do our "special" task...which is about designing a beautiful yet meaningful posters for our Malaysia 50th Independence Day.
i proudly present my group poster....( we did receive a loud round applause in the class today) thank you for my "shock sendiri" attitude reading the pantun i created within the time given.
i really feel happy and proud of my self for what i had done in the class.( my group mates too...!!)
Malaysia boleh~~~!!!! The Prestige boleh~~~!!!
- Yes, limited time "we have a lot of ideas thus we need more time to discuss before proceed with the design part"
- CLEAR instruction FOR A TESL STUDENTS...however improvement shall be made if it need to be conducted with the young learners. For example simplified instruction using simple and short sentences and sample of poster design shall be shown for guidance.
- Resistricted the pictures since each of items are beautiful and meaningfull (hard to decide).increase the time limit so the children will be able to expose with the picture and think creatively to design the poster.
- First, i'll make sure all of the students have previous knowledge or schemata about this kind of poster design activities. Level of ICT skills shall be considered when selecting this activities since it can be a barrier and drawbacks to students when designing their poster.

Wow...
Tuesday…
The one an only class for today
4th week in this course
What I learned today?
In depth explaination by Miss Chin regarding our class reading notes, "Chapter 1-ICT and the learning Principles of the Primary School Classroom"
Learning about ICT: teachers and children develop skills and knowledge in the potential
uses of ICT to support learning.
Learning with ICT: teachers and children use ICT resources to support the classroom
curriculum.
Learning through ICT: teachers and children use ICT to transform the process of teaching
and learning, learning in new ways.
Next, we had a strorytelling from Prof Maznah about her wonder experience at Sek Keb Haji Ahmad Badawi. It is under a program "Teach to the world"
interesting fact : (Thanks to mellisa for her observation)
- Intel launched their program called "Intel Teach to the World"
- 1,230 units of Classmate PCs (CMPC) for selected schools in Asia
- India =160 units, Pakistan and The Philippines=150 units, Vietnam = 50 units, Thailand=100 units, 60 units =Sri Lanka, 100 = Indonesia
- 460 units for Malaysia (The largest quantity)
Wow!!!
These pupils are so lucky... honestly i envy them. Even i dont own a laptop huhu...
Hope this will give "anjakan paradigma" and enchance their leaning process.
Next, Prof Raja Maznah did explain about
E-portfolio
What is e-portfolio or electronic portfolio
- it is a collection of work
- It shows progression
- It shows our knowledge, skills and attitudes
- It reflects our ability to organize
Then we were introduced to
- ETeMS (PPSMI)
an initiative developed by Ministry of Education (MOE) in which it aims
to equip the Maths and Science teacher with the English language competence to a level so that they could use English as a medium of instruction for enhancing the teaching-learning in and outside the classroom. We also found out about its background, types of programme, structure of programmes as well as it teaching modules. - MyCD
It aims to increase the application and usage of ICT in the teaching and learning, where new textbooks are published with textbook CD-ROM attached. It can help teachers and students to use English during the T & L processes and hence makes the content of the textbooks more meaningful. - e-Bahan
A platform whereby it provides a fun, free and safe place for the pupils to build and reinforce their skills independently in Maths, Science, reading, computers and keyboarding at their own pace through the learning materials that are provided online. At the same time, it does allow the parents to monitor and guide their children in learning through net.

s.i.m.p.l.e
Yes...simple yet attractive!!
This week we learn to improvise on our style creating a POWERFUL yet Simple powerpoint presentation. I guess it was my luck that day i came late (as usual...fashionably late) I was invited to sit in front together with Buk2 aka Aqmaal and others. There she was..i can sense her strong aura,Miss Ng. She was explaining the DO's and DON'T when creating a powerpoint. Her explaination with help from ample example "glue" my attention towards the lesson.
Honestly,i am amazed by Miss Ng lesson not because it's a new thing for me but how she delivered it.Being active participant (since i'm sitting in front of the class) i can see CLEARLY what she trying to teach .She showed a lot of sample from powerpoint presentation basicly about :
- background
- font
- size
- quality graphic
- words
I was engaged 100% to lesson and the most best part is when
a presentation from a architacture company (if i not mistaken) that really CREATIVE -ARTISTIC-AWESOME - SIMPLE
This presentation really has it impact and affecting me since i really think the facilitator is totally brilliant and make a full use of her teaching aids.
Kudos to Miss NG

Digital camera
Craving to express
I’m so keen to write today because there a lot of things happen in my Techno class. There are so many I want to share with all of you. Just keep on reading until the last line because I’ll guarantee that you won’t regret even just to gaze at this entry.
First of all, our class was split into 2 big groups (phuew…it feel good to be in a smaller size group and have PC for everyone..YIPEE) Then a handsome young guy walking into the room an introduced himself as Mr Sharill who will be our facilitator for the day.
His first command for us is to form a group of 4 or 5 and identify a group leader. –Done-
I had been selected as the leader for my group; “The Prestige”. Members of the groups including shikin, shida, ieda and amy.
I don’t find it difficult with this topic since basicly I am over exposed with digicam (fascination to take own picture with digicam hehe).
Allow me to share this piece of knowledge in this entry
How many of you guys know what is the meaning of pixel anyway
A pixel is a contraction of the term PIcture ELement. Digital images are made up of small squares, just like a tile mosaic on your kitchen or bathroom wall. Though a digital photograph looks smooth and continuous just like a regular photograph, it's actually composed of millions of tiny squares as shown below.
We managed to finish up the presentation even though with lots of room for improvement.
Self reflection about The Prestige presentation today:
· Audiences were bombarded with chunks of information- REASON : We want to provide every aspect about digital camera.
· Time constring for preparing and presenting - JUSTIFICATION : We want enhance our CREATIVITY aspects for example in designing the slide however the time limit is too short.
· Personally I think sometimes we just simply copy and paste the WHOLE sentence instead of keywords. Thus, the sentences are longer and it make a dull presentation.
· Shall improve “Group dynamic” especially in dividing for tasks

Why...???
- WHAT IS ICT? it is acronym for Information and Communication Technology
DEFINITION :the technology involving the development, maintenance, and use of computer systems, software, and networks for the processing and distribution of data
Based on Merriiam Webster Dictionary
Computers , PDA's and laptops are sample of the technology.....but having them doesnt mean you already IT savvy. It because you need to develop your computer skill, maintaning your computer from virus (im suggesting Avira AntiVir -EXCELLENT yet FOC), make full use of the computer systems and software example....browsing the net using Mozilla FireFox or listening using ReaL Media Player. Finally, the purpose is to process and distribute data since thats why technology invented for. To make our life easier.
2.What is the most difficult thing to change in school when it related to ICT?
- Attitude and perception (Students and Teachers)
- budget (school admin and ministry of education)
- environment (climate)
- rules (adminastration)
- culture and norms(Social agents like parents, peer and teacher do influence)
The best word ever.....PLEaSE however for today class i learn it can be stand for - Personalized Learning Environment and Student's Engagement.Common words used daily but actually has different meaning. Surprise right? Next,Prof introduced us to Pedagogy of Engagement Integrating Technology (PoEIT).
Why engagement important in learning process?
- Learners learn to engage solving problem in daily activities
- activated schemata or background knowledge
- Bloom Taxonomy - Application (Learner able to apply in real life situation)
